its swollen and tender. Ive tried relaxing a couple days, icing it a little, elevation but it seems to keep getting swollen again

Well first,it sounds as if you haven't yet gone to see a doctor. You really should because ankle injuries that aren't treated properly take ages to heal, and also often don't heal correctly. You've probably sprained it,and from your description,I would guess a grade 2 (partial tearing of the ligaments). This is the level of sprain where you really need to see a doctor. However, for now use RICE:Rest (don't walk more than you need to,and I would suggest crutches)
Ice (for 20 minutes at least 3x a day)
Compression (wear an ACE wrap or an ankle brace if you have one)
Elevation (place your ankle up at least at hip level, above the heart is better)Although RICE is a great method, you can substitute heat for ice now because it's been more than 48 hours. The better thing would be to alternate heat and ice 3x a day to help increase bloodflow and speed up healing.
maybe you have sprained it...you should see a doctor in like 2 days if symptoms dont seen to get any better...for now use...
RICERest (don't walk more than needed, use crutches)
Ice (20 minutes at least 3x a day)
Compression (wear an ACE wrap or ankle brace)
Elevation (at least at hip level, above the heart is better) feel better!
